What this calculator does: Converts your standard V₁ speed from indicated airspeed (IAS) to groundspeed (GS) for the given atmospheric conditions, providing a groundspeed-based decision gate for wind shear encounters during takeoff.

Typical Workflow:

  1. Input Phase: Enter ICAO or IATA airport code to auto-fetch airport weather and data, or manually input atmospheric and airport conditions. Choose calculation method (Exact uses full aerodynamic corrections; Simplified uses k-factor approximation). Select V₁ from aircraft performance calculations for the given conditions. Note: Wind speed should match what was used for the original V₁ calculation—gusts from METAR are shown for awareness but are not used in GSV₁ calculations.
  2. Verification Phase: Review auto-populated runway selection and magnetic variation; adjust wind if needed using interactive dial
  3. Brief Phase: Note the calculated GSV₁ gate value for inclusion in takeoff briefing
  4. Decision Phase: Reference groundspeed indication during takeoff roll if IAS stagnation occurs

Note: This tool does not supersede AFM/FCOM/SOPs. See footer for technical reference and feedback links.
